IN THE HEAT OF THE FIRE

The fire burns for many hours a day under the huge roof of this foundry in South Dagon in Myanmar’s former capital of Yangon. Working in this heat to shape red-hot iron bars with barely any protection is not for the faint-hearted. Two of these workers are 43-year-old U Naing Win and 26-year-old Kyaw Gyi. As they toil away, they keep a tight lid on their private lives, but in conversation their feelings come flooding out.
